Announcing: New medical clinic hours at The Health Collective! We will now be open for STI/HIV testing and sexual wellness visits on Tuesdays from 1pm-5pm and Thursdays from 2pm-8pm. A mobile food pantry will be provided onsite in collaboration with the Leo Clinic on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays of the month.

Syphilis rates are growing nationwide, so it's more important than ever to protect yourself. If you are having sex, the best way to reduce your risk of syphilis is by using condoms! What are the symptoms of syphilis? You may notice a chancre sore, which is a painless open sore at the site of infection (usually the genitals). This will go away within a few weeks. Another telltale sign is a skin rash, which often is seen on the hands, feet, and chest but can appear on other parts of the body. Fever, hair loss, headaches, and fatigue may also be present. Untreated, syphilis can eventually attack the brain and organs, leading to irreparable damage and even death. Treating early is important to make sure none of these things happen to you! If you have syphilis, you may not notice any symptoms. The only way to know for sure if you have syphilis is to be tested. The CDC recommends testing every 6-12 months for sexually active adults; with STI rates as high as they are, we recommend as often as every 3 months. Today is World AIDS Day. The theme this year is "Let Communities Lead." The only way to stop new transmissions of HIV is by empowering communities. Community leaders must have access to necessary resources, and barriers to medical care must be removed. Governments MUST better fund community-based prevention strategies. The AIDS crisis is best solved by putting power in the hands of affected communities.
